Anant Profile
In Character Information
Name: Anant
Age: 18 years old
Gender: INTERSEX. They identify as both genders, just to get it out there right at the beginning.
Birthday & Astrology Sign: 21st August, Leo
World Snapshot:
The world Anant comes from is barren and lifeless - there are only pockets of technologically advanced colonies that can sustain life, with slums on its fringes where those unable to live in the colonies pick out a living. The slums are called 'Trash Heaps', and they are treated as such, the colonies dumping all of their rubbish and waste into the slums. As such, those that live there pick out a living by shifting through the waste for anything useful - even food. The lifeless soil doesn't support many crops, and animals are scarce or ferocious.
The differences in classes are stark. There are four classes; Upper, those that live in the centre of the colonies, Lower, those that live in the outside ring of the colonies and live comfortably, the Trash, those that live in the slums, and the Nobodies, those that wander the barren wastelands. The Nobodies are whispered to be 'Mages', terrifying humans that possess the power of magic.
Magic is greatly feared in this world, as those in the colonies see it was a threat to their technological comforts. Therefore children that are shown to have the gift are instantly culled. The same is true for those in the slums, since if there is any evidence of there being mages growing up there, the colony sends out armed troops to set the Trash Heap ablaze to 'burn out the demons'.
Of course, those in the wastelands have no such concerns, so a majority of them do possess magic of varying strengths. They stay away from the colonies though, and have no plans or designs upon them. They're more interested in their own bizarre cultures, and the advent of 'The Empty One', whatever that means.
Backstory:
Anant was born in the wastelands as a Nobody. Their mother belonged to an obscure religion that tied together a loose 'tribe' of Nobodies - specifically a cult - and they took Anant's unique physiology as a sign that this was their God given mortal form. As such, Anant was worshipped within the small circle of cultists as their mortal God, their hopes thrusted upon them. The fact that Anant possessed powerful magic only seemed to solidify this perception.
Nobodies are nomads. They travel across the barren landscapes, following wherever they can find food and shelter. In the ruined world, the weather is violent and unpredictable, and there are disasters ranging from volcanic eruptions to flash floods to earthquakes happening weekly - or even sometimes, daily. The places where the colonies are built are the only few stable areas left in the world.
Anant grew up in this violent world. They never knew their father, as the man had been a nomad from a different tribe that had bedded their mother. The relationship with their mother was lacking in familial love, unfortunately. Anant's mother treated them as a deity like the rest of the cultists, and as such, Anant never really knew her apart from the others. She was just another worshipper, and was treated with equal respect as the rest. As such, when Anant's mother was killed in a flash flood before Anant was ten, they simply mourned briefly over the loss of a devout follower, and moved on without another thought.
Life existed like this for several more years, with Anant losing and gaining more followers the longer they travelled the wastelands - until one day, they went a bit too closely to one of the slums in the colonies. Every two years or so, Nobodies trade with the Trash for needed supplies - the Nobodies bring raw materials, and the Trash exchange things like old weapons or cameras or tents. Unfortunately, Anant's tribe went to the slums just as the Colonies decided to establish a law where any and all Nobodies were to be culled within a mile of their borders - another step against the Mages.
A squad of soldiers went and wiped out most of Anant's tribe, and only Anant was spared - mostly due to the machinations of the colony's Science Department. Although the colonies abhor Mages with a passion, many of the scientists wished to learn more about them, to see if they could utilise their magic or mimic its effects with technology. As Anant was the only one of their tribe to use magic so inherently and skilfully, they were the only one to have orders of being brought in alive.
Needless to say, Anant's capture set in motion something extremely disastrous... but that's a pretty long story to get into.
Personality:
Anant is a very bizarre individual - they revel in being a constant contradiction, as despite the fact that they speak very calmly and logically, they express their emotions in comical, over the top manners. This is due to the fact that they wear a mask, so to make sure that the person they are talking to understands their emotions, they do stereotypical body language to convey it. It comes across as factitious, or even mocking, but it is Anant genuinely trying to be considerate of the other person. Anant only understands the bare basics of emotions, however, which is 'happy', 'sad', 'angry' and 'scared'. Any others and Anant becomes somewhat puzzled and unsure on how to convey it.
Usually, Anant is pretty laidback in personality. They believe that they are a benevolent God, and so is very difficult to rouse into anger or passion. Anant loves humans, but they love humanity in everything they do. They find all the horrors that they commit just as beautiful and fascinating as all the good they do, something which can disturb normal people if Anant does something like gushing over the beauty of people viciously fighting each other. Although Anant only understands the basics of emotions, they are eternally fascinated over the depth and range of feeling that humans are capable of, and how it drives them to do 'strange' and 'bizarre' things.
To put it simply, Anant is something like an alien in human form. They have no understandings of the very foundations of how to be human, despite being one themselves, and any attempt to bring their humanity to their attention simply gets brushed off. Anant is determined to believe that they are a God in human form, and the reason as to why is so that they can better understand the hardship and beauty of their mortal followers. How can one be a benevolent God if they do not understand the plight of their worshippers? That is what Anant believes, and no amount of logic or arguing will budge them from this thought.
In this case, Anant can be deemed arrogant, although not maliciously so. They do not think of themselves as superior to humans, but there is a sense of distance between themselves and normal people. They treat others as if they were children to be protected and taught, displaying a maternal sort of patronisation. Although Anant is clueless about how normal people live or think, they are still determined to guide them as a good benevolent God should. This is why if Anant gives you advice, take it with a pinch of salt. Anant exists in a world far separate from reality, and what seems like a clear cut way of solving a problem, is in fact infinitely more complicated than Anant can comprehend.
In this case Anant does not have any friends. Anant does not understand how to have friends. People, at best, are their children, and although Anant feels boundless love for them whether or not they believe in their claims to be a God, they don't feel any sort of connection to them otherwise. If one wants to be friends with Anant, they have to plough through all of the God bullshit, smack them across the face, and show that Anant has a hell of a lot to learn about humans before trying to guide them.
Thankfully, Anant doesn't mind being told that they're wrong. Anant is eager to learn everything about their mortal worshippers, to try and understand their emotions and motivations, so if Anant gets something wrong and is called out on it, they will treat it like a learning experience, rather than getting flustered or defensive over it.
However, there is one way to break the otherwise indestructible calm that Anant possesses - the removal of their mask. Their face is not disfigured, or remarkable in any ugly or beautiful way, but they believe that a mortal should not gaze upon their God's visage, and so if someone were to remove their mask, Anant would react very badly. They would scream, cry, and possibly even collapse to the floor in over the top hysterics - not that their emotions are so strong, but because, again, Anant displays emotions through comical exaggerations. They would be upset by the removal of the mask, and it is a very severe insult to them, so they pull the most appalling temper tantrum to show to the person just how awful they are for doing something like that to them.
Just giving the mask back stops the tantrum as if it never happened, which is somewhat eerie. Anant is also very quick to forgive, so if you did anger them by stealing the mask, or somehow getting under their skin some other way, a show of contrition (false or true) and an apology will quickly earn you their forgiveness. Anant does not believe in punishments, and if they believe you feel badly enough about your transgression, is willing to let bygones be bygones.
However, if Anant is angered to the point where they lose all reason, such as, killing off all of their worshippers...well, let's just say that they then employ the Fire and Brimstone school of Godhood.
Canon Powers:
Although Anant is a human despite their delusions of Godhood, they do possess powerful magic. This manifests mostly into enhancing their body. They cannot cast fire or energy bursts, and instead have these abilities:
- Hyper-regeneration. An example would be that a broken bone would instead take a week or two (depending on the severity of it) to heal, instead of the usual few months.
- Increased bone/muscle density. This does mean that Anant is heavier than they look, but it means that they're a lot more durable than your average human.
- Increased agility/dexterity. Despite being heavier due to the increased bone/muscle density, their magic compensates for this, and still allows them to retain nimble movement. Their stats lie mostly in swift attacks than strong defences though.
- Increased endurance. This is a mix of magic and upbringing. As Anant was raised in a barren wasteland, Anant can resist hunger and dehydration for longer than most.
- One thing their magic can do is give them energy gauntlets. It is something similar to these here, constructed out of their magic. The sharp claws can cut through most materials, and the bulk of the gauntlets can absorb hits. However if you manage to break through the gauntlets, the backlash of magic is enough to cause Anant severe pain and disorientation - so using them as shields is a bit of a risk.
Canon Weapons|Items:
The energy gauntlets they can construct from their magic. Details as shown above. Otherwise they have no weapons on them. They do not believe in possessing fire arms or blades.
